Already captivated by this challenging sound are Chris Bohn of New Musical Express, Lyndon Barber of Melody Maker and Johnny Waller of Sounds. ALL THREE PAPERS are printing major features to coincide with the release of this album. Also being prepared are a number of prestigious dates and a session for John Peel. Libreville Era Biography: BITING TONGUES were formed in 1979 to provide an improvised live soundtrack to a film. The film was also called 'Biting Tongues' and was made by Howard Walmsley. Although intended as a one-off performance, the show was repeated three times at Manchester's Factory. After a short period of inactivity, five members of the original band reformed to provide a more concrete output than the original improvised material. These five members constitute the current format of the group, which is: Colin Seddon, Howard Walmsley, Ken Hollings, Eddie Sherwood They began 1981 with a gig at the I.C.A. Rock Week event, followed by numerous gigs on the London Club Circuit, including Richard Strange's much- acclaimed Cabaret Futura, The Mooch Club and The Beet Club. Their first album, 'Don't Heal' was released in April '81 on Situation 2 Records (SIT U 1). Also during 1981, vocalist Ken Hollings and saxophonist Howard Walmsley began working on a further film project, "Walking Heat" which was funded by North West Arts. This was completed by the end of 1981 and has since been screened at various film lectures, galleries and clubs. The band were featured on the "Northern Lights" cassette magazine in October 1981 with two tracks; "Iyahboune" and "After the Click Dialogue". A seven track cassette was released on New Hormones label entitled "Live It" in February 1982. Comments: Originally slated for release on New Hormones (ORG 26) in 1983, but New Hormones went bust. ![]() Biting Tongues - Libreville - UK LP - Back
